Surevalve Installation Instructions
Compliments of HCW Services Inc.
-
Open your Surevalve Kit. You
should have 4 assembled Surevalves
, 8 shims, 2
extra outer break-away stems or 4
caps depending on the kit you have
purchased, and 4
additional rubber grommets.
-
In order to install the Surevalve ,
you will need to disassemble it. To
disassemble the
Surevalve , do the following steps.
First remove the outer break-away
stem. Next,
remove the nut then the washer.
Finally, remove the rubber grommet
leaving just a base
valve.
-
Install one or two shims depending
on your rims thickness with the
concave part facing
away from the base of the valve. We
want to shim the Surevalve as low
as possible in
the rim for greater protection of
the valve core. Most applications
will take the two
shims.
-
Install the correct rubber grommet.
There are two sizes, choose the one
that fits your rim.
The grommet which comes installed on
the Surevalve is the most common
size. The
grommet's smaller end should face
upwards towards the top of the base
valve.
-
Install the base valve in the rim
from the inside facing out and use a
3/16 hex wrench to
hold the valve from spinning during
the installation process.
-
Install the washer and nut on the
base valve after it is positioned in
the rim. We
recommend that a drop of blue
loctite be used on the nuts. Tighten
the nut with a 9/16
socket or wrench until you feel the
hex wrench giving you tension
(trying to spin) while
holding it tight. The Surevalve
base valve must be installed very
tight to squash the
rubber grommet and create an air
tight seal.
-
Install the outer break-away stem.
Install the stem until it bottoms
out then give it a three
quarter turn with a 1/2 inch wrench
or socket. There should be a small
gap between the
nut and the upper break-away stem,
make sure you don't over tighten the
outer stem.
Install the tire and fill it to the
proper pressure. Check the Surevalve
with a soap and
water mix for any leaks. If a leak
is detected at the valve tighten the
9/16 nut some more
this normally does not require the
tire to be dismounted again. Recheck
for leaks and
repeat the above procedure until all
leaks are gone.
-
If the optional caps are to be
installed, after the assembly is
leak-checked and the tire is
filled to the proper pressure remove
the break-away outer stem. Install
the cap hand tight
then you can give it a three quarter
turn with a 1/2 inch socket or
wrench if desired.
-
Please remember when using the caps,
the outer break-away stem will still
be needed in
order to check or add air in your
tires.
